DeWalt 3rd Gen Twinpack | DCD805 Combi Drill | DCF850 Impact Driver | 2 x 1.7Ah Powerstack Batteries
A next generation twinpack that features the newest battery technology, fully backwards compatible with the 18 Volt XR range. Each battery packs 50 percent more power than a 2.0Ah battery while weighing less and having smaller dimensions. The can achieve this because of the switch in battery construction from using cylindrical cells such as 18650s and 21700s to the usage of flat pouch type battery cells, such as those used in phones, drones and more. Naturally a stack of flat cuboids takes up much less space than a series of cylinders, as each cylinder has dead space between them, no matter how efficiently you arrange them.
Another excellent advantage of these pouch cells is that it gives more flexibility to DeWalt in how they are connected together, reducing the impedance. This means they can output much higher power than a 2.0 Amp-hour battery. The extra space allows the addition of some rubber overmoulding on the bottom of the battery, perfect when used with drills and drivers that are placed on the battery when not in use.
The first tool in this kit is the DCD805 which is the successor to the extremely popular DCD796. The new combi drill features a brand new brushless DC motor that delivers more power in a smaller package thanks to DeWalt's continuing programme of research into brushless motor technology. The motor is backed up by a new package of electronics that is constantly monitoring the load on the chuck, the draw on the batteries, and more in order to deliver the best torque possible. To deliver the power from the motor to the chuck is the gearbox which has been improved upon to allow a greater delivery of power expected when combining the new PowerStack battery technology with the new brushless DC motor.
Next is the DCF850 impact driver which has a standard drop-n-load 1/4" hex bit holder that has been improved over the previous DCF887, now with reduced bit run-out. The new motor has been designed to give the same power output while being physically much smaller, allowing the head of the impact driver to measure just 100mm in length overall. It has the same ergonomic double-shot injected handle with rubber overmoulding. As well as the new brushless motor, it has an improved impact mechanism that allows you to take best advantage of the available power. The impact driver can run at up to 3,250 rpm and operates up to a maximum torque level of 205Nm.
The kit is supplied in a T-Stack II kit box, giving you a safe and convenient way of storing and transporting your powertools and hand tools. Additional boxes can be purchased which will clip to this one, letting you pick them up as one stack, or mount them on a trolley or in a van racking system. Also included are belt clips for each of the power tools, and a multi-voltage mains power charger designed to work with all 18 Volt XR Lithium-ion battery packs.
