5 DIY Easter Crafts for the Whole Family
Of all the holidays, Easter has to be one of the most craft-centric. From bunnies and eggs, to baskets and baked goods. The amount of Easter inspiration for the crafty is truly limitless. Here are 5 do-it-yourself crafts that the whole family can enjoy making this Easter.
Peeps Houses
What’s better than a craft that doubles as a treat? The best way to get rid of crafts once the season is over is to eat them, of course, and a
Peeps house fits this bill.
What you’ll want to do is gather some Peeps candy (the yellow and pink marshmallow birds), some graham crackers, frosting (make it yourself, if you can), and some home “decor” like candy eggs. Using the graham crackers as framing, drywall, and roofing, and the frosting as your foundation and securing agent. Build some small houses for your candy companions, and surround them with candy eggs and you’ve got yourself a delicious little craft.
If you want to go the extra mile you can try to build bigger houses and add other candy as “shingles”.
Easter Wreaths
One way to be super creative with the whole family is to have everyone design their own Easter wreath. The good news is that there are almost an endless amount of materials one can use to make a good wreath - so everyone’s attempt will be truly unique.
Some ideas for wreaths include ones made of grass, dotted with plastic or wood eggs; ones made with paper rolled into the shapes of flowers, ones made entirely out of malted milk candy eggs; and ones made out of gumdrops.
Easter wreaths can be incredibly easy to make or somewhat difficult. It all depends on how much skill you have and how much time you want to spend. This makes the craft perfect for people of all ages and abilities. Just remember, wreath-making usually requires a hot glue gun to affix the decorations, so make sure you talk to your kids about proper
DIY safety.
Sock Bunnies
One craft sure to interest your kids is a sock bunny. Not only will it please the kids, but sock bunnies are incredibly inexpensive to make. All you really need is some rice, a nice sock, some rubber bands, ribbon, felt, and some store-bought googly eyes.
Basically, what you’ll do is fill the sock with rice and use the rubber bands to tie off the “head”, leaving room on both sides of the sock for the body and ears. You’ll use the felt to make the belly and the teeth, and cut the top of the sock in half to form the ears.
Here’s a great tutorial on how to make them.
Easter treat jars
Let’s get back to the candy, shall we? A great way to store all those candy eggs is in an Easter bunny treat jar. Mason jars are turned into adorable little candy vessels with the help of some ribbon, bunny stencils or stickers, and pastel paper. They couldn’t be any easier to make. Check out
this how-to guide.
Twine carrots
Your family will love making
these table decorations for your big Easter feast. Using just newspaper, tape, and twine, you can make awesome fabric carrots in minutes. All you need to do is find some fake grassy stuff for the carrot greens, wrap the base of them in newspaper, tape the paper down to form a carrot shape, and use a
hot glue gun and orange twine to wrap the carrot-shaped mold. Easy peasy.
Easter is a great time for DIY crafts as they can bring the family together and create lasting memories. In some cases, your kids might even try the same crafts with their own children when they grow up and have families.
