  Milwaukee HotShot Jump Starter | 2000A

  
  The HotShot from Milwaukee is capable of jump starting virtually any size engine commonly found on British and Irish roads. It can start 3.0 litre diesels, or 8.1 litre petrols. The reason you can't just start a car with an M18 battery directly is two-fold. Firstly the incompatible Voltage; 18V vs 12V. Secondly - and more importantly - is that you can only draw a maximum of around 10 Amps from a battery; it takes up to 2,000 Amps to start an internal combustion engine. The HotShot uses internal super capacitors to draw power from the inserted M18 battery pack, charging them up. Capacitors are capable of dumping all of their capacity in a very short space of time. It takes just over a minute to transfer the energy from the battery to the capacitors, after which they are ready to start your dead vehicle. On a full charge, you can expect to be able to make around 50 jump starts from a 5.0Ah battery. The lifetime of the capacitors has been tested to 500,000 cycles - that's the equivalent of 50 jump starts a day for 27 years - so nothing to worry about there. There is a clear display on the tool, giving you the necessary information about the state of charge, and the voltage of the dead battery. On the top of the unit is a spring loaded carry handle, as well as a powerful LED work light, letting you use the same tool to illuminate the engine bay as you are to start the engine. Finally, there is a type-C USB port to let you pass through the battery power to charge devices like phones and tablets.
