This machine from Makita's ever-growing XGT range of power tools gives you an incredible 2 Kilowatts of cutting power in a portable cordless package. It runs from two of the 40Vmax Lithium-ion battery packs in series to deliver 80 Volts to the brushless DC motor. This makes it equivalent to a 40cc petrol machine. The UR012G is the perfect choice when you need to carry out some heavy duty strimming or brush cutting in a noise sensitive area, but is also fantastic for those professionals who just want something that is cleaner, easier to maintain and better to live with.
The strimmer comes with a bike handle that is offset to one side for comfortable and ergonomic work. The handle has the control gear to allow you to vary the speed of the motor based on both the 3-speed selector switch and the pressure sensitive trigger. It is also here that you can select reverse operation mode that temporarily runs the motor backwards, extremely useful when working with tougher grasses and weeds that may get stuck.
To maintain cutting performance, the electronics are constantly monitoring the load on the motor, and increasing the power delivery if it detects heavy load. Another advantage of this monitoring is the AFT or Active Feedback sensing Technology that will cut power to protect the user if it detects a sudden slowdown consistent with a jam that could otherwise injure the operator without AFT.
The spindle is a left-hand M10 x 1.25, meaning it fits many heads, Makita or otherwise. It is supplied out of the box with a nylon string cutting head, which works with the guard to give an impressive cutting diameter of 480mm. The 80V motor can rotate the head at up to 6,400 rpm when on the highest speed setting.
