If you are a professional tradesman or an avid DIY enthusiast and you're thinking of purchasing a nail gun for your next project it is important to consider a number of purchasing factors. Of course the primary deciding factor is going to be whether the product suits your project needs or not? but what about price, functionality, manufacture and build? All key drivers that make the distinction between top, medium and low quality products. In todays market there is a mass of nail guns saturating the market. There are guns readily available for general all purpose uses to nail guns with specific integrated properties and designs to suit specialist jobs and work environments.

In todays blog we are going to be accessing the fantastic brand new TOP of the range 'Finish' Nail Guns from Dewalt. The Dewalt finish nailers fire 16 gauge nails and frequently are found in found in soft to medium wood applications such as the 2nd fixing of mouldings, architraves, door frames, panelling, cabinets, wooden flooring and furniture applications. Finsh nails provide strength and support to materials and are sturdy enough to hold large sheets or pieces of materials in place while remaining small enough to be puttied (covered) for the finish product.

So your probably wondering what makes the Dewalt DCN660D2 / P2 Cordless Finish Nailers so special? Let's Take a look at some of their features!

and saving on kinetic and electrical energy waste during continual use. Additionally the 'smart' electronic control board works in conjunction with the magnetic fixings to efficiently manage the delivery of charge to applications. Let me put it into laymans terms for you; for instance if you're driving a finishing nail into a softwood skirting architrave the smart chip then calculates the exact amount of charge needed to drive the nail through, where the charge would be less for a softwood such as cedar and the charge would be greater for a hardwood such as mahogany.
The end result is that the DCN660D2/P2 finish nailers have a longer run time and longer life span. The nailers have a greater efficiency in comparison to brushed motors and are far more durable because the motors will never require any maintenance or replacement parts. All of these factors offers low running costs and consistent performance in turn saving you money!!

Brushless Motor Technology

Brushless motors are a relatively new and forthcoming technology which has been incorporated into the Dewalt power tools. In comparison to a standard brushed motor, a brushless motor loses the 'brushes' and 'commutator'. They use electro magnetics at specific locations to produce bi-directional motor windings which are central to the copper wound motor shaft and armature. Instead of brushes and a controlling PCB commutator a small circuit board co-ordinates the delivery of energy to windings. So how does this improve or benefit you? Well the primary benefit of brushless motors comes from their magnetic design; So when the the nailer is in use there is no friction generated by the dragging of brushes, thus eliminating the voltage drop

Lightweight, Compact & Ergonomic Design

Dewalt have created the DCN660D2/P2 finish nailers with maximum user comfort in mind. Manufactured from tough and durable bi-material, the nailers housing features a lightweight and compact design which strives to produce an optimum power to weight ratio, helping to to reduce physical fatigue when in use. An ergonomnic rubber bi-grip handle is designed to fit the palm of your hand, increasing grip strength and allowing for precise and controlled nailing.

Bump & Sequential Modes

The finish nailer incorporates both bump and sequential firing modes. Each mode has its advantages and benefits under different circumstances. The sequential mode refers to a single firing nail that is dictated by a single depression of the firing trigger. Sequential mode is best selected when precision nail placement is a requirement. In comparison the bump mode can fire up to 4 nails per second via a single trigger depression, a function that best suits a high production work environment. Both the DCN660D2/P2 Nailers are eligible to fire nails ranging from 32mm-63mm in length.

Optimised Tool Functions

The tool has been optimised to increase user performance and offer fast action control and settings. The trigger and contact trip lock-off safety feature give full control while also preventing the accidental dis-charge of fastners. The finish nail drive depth can be regulated using the thumb wheel adjuster and a tool free stall / jam clearance function minimises the overall tool down time.
